Banking
Mercantil, C.A. Banco Universal in Venezuela, founded in 1925, has 85 years of experience in financial services. Mercantil Banco Universal is also Venezuela's leading bank in terms of Tourism and Industrial loans with market shares of 16.3% and 20.3%, respectively. In addition Mercantil ranks as the second bank in the Venezuelan financial system in terms of Mortgage loans under the Mortgage Debtor Law (Ley Especial del Deudor Hipotecario) with 16.9% of the market. It also comes second in terms of Total Assets, Gross loans and Agricultural loans with a market shares of 10.5%, 13.1% and 13.0% respectively.

Mercantil Bank (Panama) Initiated operations in 1977 under the name of Banco del Centro, S.A. with an international banking license obtained from Panama's Superintendence of Banks having activities mainly in trade finance in Latin America and trading mostly in emerging market securities. In December 2007 the bank changed its International License for the General License approved by the Superintendency of Banks of Panama, which enables it to offer its financial services to Panamanian residents and foreigners alike.
